Meet the person behind Open The Gathering
A small indie project built with a mix of curiosity, data, and cardboard.

Hi! I'm Fernando — a developer and a casual Magic: The Gathering fan from Barcelona, Spain. I'm not a pro player or a full-time content creator, just someone who genuinely enjoys building things and opening boosters.
Right now I'm unemployed, and while I'm exploring different projects to move forward (and keep learning), this one is where I'm focusing most of my energy and passion. I'm putting as much effort into it as I can — sometimes progress will be fast, other times a bit slower — so thank you in advance for your patience and support.
I wanted a personal space where I could track my collections, archive my pulls, and visualize the profits (and losses!) of the adventure. This project lets me combine a few things I love: coding, data, and collectible cards.
Why I built this
I wanted more than a random pile of cards in boxes. I wanted a way to see the story behind each booster, how a collection grows, and how the numbers look over time — in an honest, transparent way.
What this means for me
This site is part portfolio, part playground: a place to improve as a developer, experiment with ideas, and hopefully build something other people find useful or fun to follow.
Tech & learning
I'm actively learning and working with tools like TypeScript, React and Next.js, and I keep improving the site as my skills grow. Expect the code, design and features to evolve over time.
What's next
If OpenTheGathering works well, I'd love to expand it: better stats, more sets, maybe tools for other collectors too. For now, I'm taking it one booster, one feature, and one commit at a time.
