About the project
What is Open the Gathering, why does it exist, and what can you expect from it?
What is Open the Gathering?
Open the Gathering is a personal project focused on Magic: The Gathering booster openings, with a special love for themed products like Final Fantasy and Spider-Man crossovers.
The idea is simple: open packs, track the best pulls, and share the journey in a transparent way — from hype moments to disappointing bricks.
What you'll find on this site
- Blog – short posts about each day, sets, and random MTG thoughts.
- Days – one page per day of the challenge, with a summary of what came out of each booster.
- Best cards – a curated list of the spiciest pulls: value, art, or just pure cool factor.
- Analytics – rough stats about how the box is doing (total value, best day, worst day, value by set…).
- Support – ways to help keep the project going and “buy me a booster”.
How the 30-day challenge works
The main format of the project is a 30-day booster challenge:
- Pick a box or product line (Final Fantasy, Spider-Man, etc.).
- Open one pack per day on video.
- Log the most interesting card from each pack and a rough estimated value.
- Track how the box performs over time – not as financial advice, just for fun and transparency.
The goal is to show the real experience of opening sealed product: some days are amazing, some days are rough.
Who's behind this?
Open the Gathering is run by a single person who loves Magic: The Gathering, trading card games and web development.
The site itself is also part of a learning journey: experimenting with React, Next.js, TypeScript, analytics, and fullstack tools while building something fun and public-facing.
Future plans
- More detailed card tracking (not just the top hit).
- Better visuals for analytics and box progress.
- Extra sections for long-term stats, like total value opened across different sets.
Everything you see here is work-in-progress, and will keep evolving as the project grows.
